How to enter BBNYA 2020

  1. Read the requirements to enter carefully and make sure you, the author, and the novel meet them.
  2. Read the Rules & Conditions carefully and only proceed if you agree.
  3. Fill out the official sign-up form completely and truthfully before May 10, 2020 23:59 GMT. You'll receive a copy of your answers via email.
  4. You'll receive a personal confirmation from our team no later than May 11, 2020. In this confirmation we will ask you to pay the entrance fee of €15, and provide the excerpts of the first thousand (1000) and ten thousand (10.000) words in PDF format before May 13, 2020 23:59 GMT.
  5. We will confirm we have received the payment and the excerpts.
  6. That's it! You are now officially an entrant of BBNYA 2020!

The requirements to enter

The author and the novel must meet the following requirements to enter this contest.

  1. The novel has to be published on or between January 1st 2013 and December 31st 2019 and be currently available for sale.
  2. The novel must be book 1 in a series or a standalone.
  3. The novel has to be fiction, written in English prose and a full novel. Anthologies, short story bundles and similar collections will be declined.
  4. The novel must be independently/self-published or published by an independent press. It is the author’s responsibility to ensure publisher and author are in agreement about entry and that all terms and conditions can be met.
  5. The novel has to be over 40,000 words.
  6. The author must be aged 18 or older at the time of entering.
  7. The author may only submit their own work, and not that of another author, and only if they have the correct rights and/or permissions to do so. We are not responsible for any legal consequences. Posthumous submissions are not accepted.
  8. The author is to provide any and all trigger and content warnings for any potentially sensitive content. These are used for both the judging process and the safety of panel members. Sensitive content can be, but is not limited to: racism, discrimination, disrespect towards any member of the LGBTQIA+ community or the community as a whole, misogyny, disrespect to disabled people, or any minority group, abuse be it sexual, physical, mental, animal cruelty etc. We are not responsible for low scoring from our panel if you fail to provide any and all trigger warnings.   9. The author is to provide all info asked for in the sign-up form, excerpts of the novel and the novel itself when asked for. The author is to provide the excerpts in PDF when their entry is confirmed via email prior to the start of the contest. The author is to provide BBNYA with full, digital copies of the novel for distribution to our panelists if they proceed to the final round. The novel is to be available in different formats, such as, but not limited to, ePUB and mobi. The digital copies should be formatted to industry standards.
  10. Authors currently serving a custodial prison sentence are not eligible to submit.

Rules and Conditions

Entering BBNYA 2020 means you agree with the following:

  1. Authors who enter their novel in The Book Bloggers' Novel of the Year Award agree to have their novel judged by our panel (volunteer book bloggers) and understand that the awards are based solely on merit and that the judges' decisions are final. The author is not permitted to contact panelists about their entry, any such contact will result in disqualification.
  2. Author accepts that the 15 euro entrance fee is to be paid via PayPal and is non-refundable.
  3. The author is aware that they are not guaranteed any form of remuneration, be that prize, award, exposure or publicity for their entry fee. This is an administration fee.
  4. The author gives The Book Bloggers' Novel of the Year Award and their associates permission to read and judge their work, and will not hold them responsible for any damages seen or imagined that may result from entry.
  5. The author gives The Book Bloggers' Novel of the Year Award and its associates permission to post their book cover, title, excerpts, or use author’s name for publicity purposes during and after the contest. The author is aware that the judges have no obligation to review, promote, critique or edit their book.
  6. Any and all updates about the books advancing to following rounds will be done on our site and on our social media. No individual correspondence will be entered into, it is the author’ responsibility to check their social media and the competition website for news of their entry.
  7. The winning author agrees to provide an address to which the trophy and any additional prizes requiring postage can be delivered.
  8. All entries will be judged on the original submission unless otherwise stated. Authors may make one submission only and this cannot be amended or updated.
  9. An author cannot enter multiple novels, use multiple pen names or enter somebody else's work. A book written by multiple people ('co-authored') may be submitted by one of the authors with the explicit permission of all others concerned. The co-authors are not allowed to submit any additional novel of their own as the co-authored book is considered as one (1) entry.
  10. The author maintains any and all rights to their work.
  11. The author is responsible for any and all costs incurred in submitting their book.
  12. We reserve the right to withdraw entries if we determine the entrant has failed to meet the R&Cs or entering requirements. The entrance fee remains non-refundable.
  13. We reserve the right to withdraw entries if we deem the entrant is behaving inappropriately to other entrants, the panelists or in general. The entrance fee remains non-refundable.
  14. The author has the right to withdraw their entry from the contest at any point. The entrance fee remains non-refundable.
